Famous Temples near Shantiniketan in Birbhum , West Bengal, India

There are several famous and beautiful temples are located in Birbhum district, West Bengal. Some of them are:-

Kaleswar Shiv Mandir in Mayureswar in Birbhum district:
Kaleswar Shiva Temple is located under Mayureswar Police Station in Birbuum district. The temple was established by Sri Raja Ramjiban of village Dheka under Mayureswar-II Block. It was established in 10th-11th Century. Kaleswar Shiva Tmple is famous for its height. The temple is an notable sculpture in the district. A village fair held every year during “Shivaratri”.

Kenduli-Joydev in Birbhum District:
Joydev-Kenduli is approximately 35 km from Bolpur Santiniketan. There are several temples located in Kenduli. Kenduli is the birthplace of great Sanskrit poet Joydev. Mallarpur is located in Mallarpur village and the village is about 2 km away from Mallarpur Railway station. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located there. The place is situated near Nalhati Railway station. The town Nalhati is named after Nalhateshwari Temple, one of the Shakti Pithas in India. It is believed that Nala (throat) of Sati fell at the place. 

Another belief is that it was Lalat (forehead) that fell there. Nalhateshwari Temple is one of the 52 Shakti Pithas where parts of Sati’s body fell. Frequent bus and train services are available. Shyor Bithi Culture Park in Shantiniketan, Place to Visit in Shantiniketan, West Bengal

Shyor Bithi Culture Park in Shantiniketan-One of the beautiful place to see in Santiniketan Bolpur, Birbhum:-

Shyor Bithi Culture Park is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Santiniketan, Bolpur. The park is situated in the north side of Bolpur Santiniketan and between Phuldanga and Prantik. The place is approximately 2 to 3 km from Visva Bharati University campus. Visitors may visit this park in any season.
There is a beautiful children park. Let the children enjoy the beautiful play area where they can play and communicate with nature. The children park is sophisticated with so many statues, rocking cradles, swings etc.

The natural beauty and pleasant surroundings will charm anybody. There are so many small coffee stalls available in the park. Visitor can visit a typical Bengali village and can relax with tea from a village tea shop. There is a beautiful sun deck where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee or a cold drink and snacks at breakfast and tea time.

There is a large and deep tank (pond) in this park and boating facility is also available there. There is a small island in the middle of the tank. Some special birds come there once in a year.
All these features and green surroundings make a different environment of romance. The whole park is sophisticated with so many sitting places for visitors. There are so many flower trees and plants are planted here and there in the park.

There is an air conditioned restaurant named “Jhal Jhol” which serves Bengali cuisine.
Visitors may try their skill in the gaming arcade there and win attractive prizes.
The park also has a fully air conditioned auditorium with a capacity for around 200 people which is available for conferences, art shows, functions etc.

Sonajhuri in Bolpur Santiniketan-Quick Sammary and Inoformation:
Sonajhuri is an area of outstanding natural beauty and considered to have significant landscape value in Santiniketan, Bolpur. Natural beauty and pleasant surroundings of Sonajhuri will charm any nature-lover. Sonajhuri is situated at the north side of Bolpur Santiniketan. There is a cannel named ‘Shyambati’. At times I use to visit this place whenever I feel alone or any sad feelings in my heart. The place is completely filled by reddish soil, cool breeze and surrounded by green Sonajhuri trees. Travelers may visit the place in any season. But it is more pleasant to visit the place in winter. 



 
The place is a perfect destination to visit for the lovers and newly married couples. The romantic place will drive you to a different world. There are a plenty of Sonajhuri trees.
I am not a professional photographer. I have just tried to take some beautiful photographs that I have enjoyed and I want to show there here to other nature-lovers so that they also can enjoy the joy of nature of Santiniketan.

Labhpur Fullaratala-A Holy Place to Visit near Santiniketan in Birbhum:-

Labhpur Fullara Temple-Quick Summary and Information:
Labhpur Fullaratala is a sacred place with historical importance near Santiniketan in Birbhum district. The Kanuri river flows nearby, winding its way through lush green fields and red soil. Labhpur Fullaratala is covered in greenery, but quite developed. 


The main attraction of the place is the beautiful temple of Fullara Maata. The myth is that, the lip of Sati cut down at Fullara. It is one of the 52 Pithas or Sacred places where Sati’s dead body fell. The temple is almost 100 years old. Labhpur Fullaratala is famous for the temple of Goddess Fullara and lake named Daldali. As a substitute there is a piece of tortoise-shaped rock admired by the disciples. A 10-day fair is held at the Fullara temple in every year during Magh Purnima. The temple is surrounded by dense foliage, giving the place a mysterious look. A huge pond is situated nearby. According to myth, the ancient sage Durbasa’s ashram stood just three km from the place, at Gopalpur.

 
There is a temple of Dharma in close by the village, Bele. Those who are suffering from arthritis come to this village to have a bath in the pool, adjoining to the temple which is believed to have a celestial healing power.

Communication:
Labhpur is approximately 50 km from Bolpur Santiniketan. Buses are frequent and it takes about 2 hours. Travelers also may tour by train. Then they have to fo to Ahmadpur. Labpur is on the Ahmadpur-Katwa section. Labpur village is in Bolpur Subdivision situated on Suri-Kirnahar road approximately 10 km to the east of Ahmadpur railway station. Labpur is connected by road from Ahmadpur railway station at a distance of 12 km by road. Bus services are available from Suri, Sainthia and Bolpur frequently. If travelers are visiting Santiniketan, Labhpur Fullaratala is an ideal weekend destination, far from the din and bustle of city life.

Labhpur is also famous for it is the birthplace of famous Bengali writer Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay, renowned novelist of Bengal. He wrote here many books. Now it has been converted into a museum, which houses several at his belongings. A Guest House named Labhpur Guest House is available there for tourists.

Kankalitala-A Holy Place to visit in Birbhum District:-

Kankalitala is one of the sacred Satipithas. The place is located on the bank of the river ‘Kopai’. Kankalitala is situated on the Bolpur Labpur road. A temple of ‘Maa Sati’ is located there. This temple is believed to be an extremely holy place by the Hindus. Kankalitala is one of the fifty two Pithas or Sacred where a part of the dismembered of Sati fell. In this case the waist (Kankal) hence the name.
A festivity (Kankalitala Mela or fair) is also held yearly throughout the month of April (on the last day of Bengali month Chaitra).
