Nanoor (23 km)
Birthplace of the Vaisnava poet,Chandidas (14th century). 
Travelers may go to the place by bus or any other road transport.
  
Kenduli- Joydev
Kenduli is a few Kms. west from Illambazar and is 30 kms from Shantiniketan. The place is situated on the north bank of River Ajoy. It is renowned as the birth place of great Sanskrit poet Joydev who flourished in 12th Century and composed the well known Geet - Govinda, a Sanskrit Lyrical poem. Annual- Mela is held in the village Kenduli in the last day of Bengali month Pous and first 2 days of Magh and is attended by thousands of pilgrims including Bauls. Kenduli is famous for its folk song festival held during Makar Sankranti (Mid January). This festival is the largest of its kind in the state. 


Bakreswar (58 km)

Bakreswar is a sacred place near Bolpur Santiniketan. Bakreswar is approximately 58 km from Bolpur Santiniketan and approximately 19 km from Suri. Bus services are available both from Suri and Dubrajpur ends. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located there which is popularly known as Pahareswar. On the way, visitors may give a step over to the Mama-Bhagne hill at Dubrajpur. Travellers may locate numerous hilly caves. There are the temples of Lord Shiva and Shasan Kali. The Mughal Kuthi at Mahanto Para is also a significant tourist spot to pay a visit.

Nalhati (104 kms)
The place is situated near Nalhati Railway Station on the Howrah Sahebganj loop line of Eastern Railways. It is also connected by the Panagarh- Moregram Road. It is famous for Nalateswari Temple. It is so called because Nala or throat of Sati fell here as known by tradition. Another report says that it was a Lalat or forehead that fell here. It is regarded as a Pithas i.e. one of the 52 places where parts of Sati's body fell. It is located on a small & beautiful hill.

Hetampur
The place is situated near Dubrajpur and is well connected with Suri by bus. Hetampur is well-known for the past heritage Rajbari. Here are numerous reservoirs enclosed by lofty palm trees. It was formerly within the Zamindary of the Raja Bahadur of Hetampur. It is famous for Rajbari, a historical heritage. Hetampur has a number of good tanks surrounded by tall palm trees. Besides the terracotta temple of Dewanji Shiva also draws the attention of the pilgrims.

Mayureswar- Kaleswar Shiv Mandir
Kaleswar Siva Mandir is situated under Mayureswar Police Station, Birbhum. The Temple was established by Sri Raja Ramjiban of village Dheka under Mayureswar-II Block in 10th -11th Century. The Temple was constructed following "Nabaratra” concept. The Temple is famous for its height. A village fair held every year during “Sivaratri”. People of 50-60 surrounding villages are assembled in the fair. The Temple is a notable sculpture in the District, Birbhum.


Massanjore (78 km)
Massanjore is a good option for one day trip from Bolpur Santiniketan. The place is the site of a massive Dam. Massanjore is approximately 78 km from Bolpur Santiniketan. Small rocks are seen here and there at Massanjore. Boating facility is also available for travelers.

Patharchapuri

It is a village under Nagari Gram Panchayat under Suri-I Block within Suri Police Station. Patharchapuri is well connected with Bolpur Santiniketan by Bus and other Road Transport.
Patharchapuri is the precedence of the Mohammedan Saint  Hazrat Data Meheboob Shah Wali famously known as "Data-Baba". He is famous for his Sufi Thoughts. It is said that he was gifted to miraculous power and used to cure dangerous diseases by applying ashes of dust. His tomb in the village is frequented by many visitors every year. A large Fair locally known as "Data Saheber Mela", perhaps the largest in the region, is held in Patharchapuri village in the month of Chaitra (March-April) every year. Thousands of pilgrims assemble in the fair during the occasions.

Rajnagar (25 Kms. from Suri)
The place is well connected with Suri by bus. Rajnagar is amous for artificial tank Kalidaha. It is said to have been excavated by Hindu Rajas and dedicated to Goddess Kali. On three sides on Kalidaha tank there are the wings of the former palaces of Mohamedan Rajas of Nagar. In front of the ruins of the Imambara stands a fine mosque in a state of good preservation, which is still used by local Mohemadan. A little to the south are the ruins of another old mosque called the Motichur Masjid which had 12 Tombs but some fell down. Other wings may be mentioned are Nahabatkhana of the Bir Rajas, the Full-bagan, Burial place of the Mohamedan Rajas. 

Dubrajpur (22 Kms from Suri)
Dubrajpur is famous for the small township contains a number of Shiva temples. Numbers of gigantic rocks are found in the vicinity. The granite is gray and composed of glassy quartz pink, gray feldspar and black mica. Two remarkable of these rocks are known as Mama & Bhagne (Uncle  & Nephew)

Tarapith (80 km)

Tarapith is famous for it is one of the Shakti Pithas.
One can reach Tarapith firstly from Bolpur to Rampurhat by train or bus and then 5 kms by bus or cycle rickshaw. Ramkanai Dharamshala a number of hotels are there.

Kankalitala (7 km)

Kankalitala is one of the sacred Satipithas. The place is located on the bank of the river ‘Kopai’. Kankalitala is situated on the Bolpur Labpur road. A temple of ‘Maa Sati’ is located there. This temple is believed to be an extremely holy place by the Hindus. Kankalitala is one of the fifty two Pithas or Sacred where a part of the dismembered of Sati fell. In this case the waist (Kankal) hence the name.

Sriniketan (2 km)

Some departments of Visva Bharati University are situated there.
Labpur Fullora (40 km)
Labpur Fullaratala is a sacred place with historical importance near Santiniketan in Birbhum district. The Kanuri river flows nearby, winding its way through lush green fields and red soil. Labpur Fullaratala is covered in greenery, but quite developed.
The main attraction of the place is the beautiful temple of Fullara Maata. The myth is that, the lip of Sati cut down at Fullara. It is one of the 52 Pithas or Sacred places where Sati’s dead body fell.

Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary / Dear Park  
The place is about 2 km from Santiniketan. While at Shantiniketan, tourists must visit the Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary. Located in Birbhum District of West Bengal, the Sanctuary is home to a variety of deer and water birds apart from jackals and foxes. Look out for small herds of black buck and spotted deer as you tour the sanctuary.

Khowai: A place of scenic beauty, surrounded by so many Sonajhuri trees, the red soil, the cannel named “Shaymbati” and the land slides make this place a beautiful piece of landscape. Every Saturday the local craftsmen gather there to reveal there works to the public. This is called the “Khowai er Haat”.or “Khowai er Mela”. 



Amar Kutir     
Tourists interested in shopping for handicrafts or leather goods can visit Amar Kutir, which is located close to Santiniketan. Amar Kutir was a society or a cooperative movement by Rabindranath Tagore, to aid and develop the art and craft of the village folk.

Sriniketan    
In 1992, Sriniketan, a centre for rural reconstruction was established in Santiniketan. Sriniketan also has a department devoted to the studies of the socio-economic problems of India. This centre focuses on education related to agriculture, handicrafts, cottage industries, welfare of villages and adult education.

Kopai River
Kopai River is a beautiful place to see near Santiniketan.

Shayor Bithi Recreational Park
Shayor Bithi Park is about 1-2 km away from University Campus. It is a very charming place to visit.

Visva Bharati University    
The Visva Bharati University at Shantiniketan is world famous and is acknowledged as one of the greatest temples of learning in Fine art and Literature in India. Founded by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in 1901, the university has always defined the standards of literary excellence and its fine arts division carries on the Gurudev's tradition of uncompromising and unparalleled standards of excellence. Maharshi Debendranath, father of Rabindranath Tagore, founded an Ashram here in 1863. Almost 40 years later, his son Rabindranath started an open-air school here that gradually blossomed into an international university where the cultures of the East and the West meet in common fellowship. The university today is a center of international culture and studies and has two campuses, one at Shantiniketan and another at Sriniketan. 

China Bhavana
China Bhavana is a centre for Chinese studies that focuses on developing relationship between India and China. Natir Puja, a dance drama of Tagore is painted on its wall under the guidance of Nandalal Bose, pioneering Indian artist..

Hindi Bhavan   
Rabindranath Tagore understood the importance of the language Hindi in integrating the Indian society, so a centre for learning Hindi was also established inside Santiniketan that is named Hindi Bhavana.

Kala Bhavana
In 1919, Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore established Kala Bhavan, the centre for study and research in visual arts in India, in the complex of Viswa Bharati University. The subjects offered here include history of art, painting, sculpture, graphics and artistic design on which graduate and diploma courses are available.

Sangeet Bhavan                     
In the year 1919, Rabindranath Tagore had set up Sangeet Bhavana as a centre for promoting folk dance, arts, drama and music. Providing training in Hindustani classical instrumental music, vocal music and Rabindrasangeet are the speciality of this centre. It also teaches musical dance dramas, which were composed by the bard himself incorporating styles of Manipuri and Kathakali dance.

Vidya Bhavan   
In 1925, Rabindranath Tagore founded Vidya Bhavan, which is the study centre for the social sciences and humanities. It is situated in Santiniketan’s Viswa Bharati University complex. Here regular graduate and undergraduate courses are offered.

Siksha Bhavan
‘Siksha’ is the word for science in Sanskrit and Siksha Bhavan means a centre for studying science. This centre was established by Rabindranath Tagore, which is situated inside the campus of Viswa Bharati University.
Here Graduate and Postgraduate degrees are offered on subjects like statistics, mathematics, zoology, chemistry, botany and biotechnology. Computer courses like MCA are also offered by this centre, and many national and international seminars and conventions are also conducted for the progress of various science subjects.

Patha Bhavan   
There are two institutions in Santiniketan that are associated with the Viswa- Bharati University offering primary and secondary education. One is Shiksha Satra and the other is Patha Bhavana.
Patha Bhavana has a Gurukul system of ashrams, where students get chance to learn from nature.

Nippon Bhavan       
It collaborates with some centres of the University and the department of Japanese studies is currently situated in the Nippon Bhavan.
The library of this centre has many books, mainly catering to Japanese culture, literature and artistic features. To develop the relation between India and Japan and help in the research, many Japanese scholars pay a visit to this centre.

Museum and Archive
Situated in Uttranyana complex, it contains the original manuscript, paintings and personal belongings of Rabindranath. Archive has a Library and research wing.

Prayer Hall or Upasana Griha:
Upasana Griha was founded by Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s father in 1863. A prayer hall made of several colored Belgium glasses with marble steps on all the four sides. During evening service, candle is lit around the prayer hall, and it wears a magnificent look in flickering light. Prayers are held on Wednesday.


Black House
Black House is a mud building known for its relief works done by stalwarts like Ram Kinkar and Prabhas Sen.

Uttarayan Complex
Uttarayan Complex is a garden with five houses where Rabindranath used to live and is hence a very popular location. The poet lived and worked in the Northern Complex consisting of several buildings as: Udayana, Konarka, Shyamali, Punascha and Udichi. The Bichitra (or, Rabindra Bhavan ) designed by the poet's son Rathindranath Tagore. The entire complex is divided into many buildings in varying architectural styles. This complex is closed on Wednesday.

Bichitra
Bichitra: Also called Rabindra Bhavan, a Research Centre and Museum where the poet's personal belongings, paintings & various editions of his works are exhibited.

Rabindra Bhavan    
Rabindra Bhavan was established in Santiniketan in 1942. The memories of this Nobel Laureate with his personal artefacts, books, photographs and voice records are all displayed in Rabindra Bhavan. There is also a general section devoted to the letters, paintings by various popular artists, where even the original manuscripts of Tagore’s writings are preserved properly. 

Chhatimtala
Here Maharshi Devendranath, the father of Rabindranath Tagore, used to meditate under the Chhatim Trees. Prayers are held usually at Convocation time. Successful graduates of the Vishwa Bharati University are presented a branch of five leaves each from the Saptaparni trees which abound in the area. 

Santiniketan Griha
Santiniketan Griha is the oldest building of Santiniketan.

Dehali
Rabindranath used to live with his wife Mrinalini Devi in this two storied building.

Shyamali
Rabindranath welcomed Gandhiji at this mud house.
