Labhpur Fullaratala is a sacred place with historical importance near Santiniketan in Birbhum district. The Kanuri river flows nearby, winding its way through lush green fields and red soil. Labhpur Fullaratala is covered in greenery, but quite developed.
The main attraction of the place is the beautiful temple of Fullara Maata. The myth is that, the lip of Sati cut down at Fullara. It is one of the 52 Pithas or Sacred places where Sati’s dead body fell. The temple is almost 100 years old. Labhpur Fullaratala is famous for the temple of Goddess Fullara and lake named Daldali. As a substitute there is a piece of tortoise-shaped rock admired by the disciples. A 10-day fair is held at the Fullara temple in every year during Magh Purnima. The temple is surrounded by dense foliage, giving the place a mysterious look. A huge pond is situated nearby. According to myth, the ancient sage Durbasa’s ashram stood just three km from the place, at Gopalpur.
There is a temple of Dharma in close by the village, Bele. Those who are suffering from arthritis come to this village to have a bath in the pool, adjoining to the temple which is believed to have a celestial healing power.
Communication:
Labhpur is approximately 50 km from Bolpur Santiniketan. Buses are frequent and it takes about 2 hours. Travelers also may tour by train. Then they have to fo to Ahmadpur. Labpur is on the Ahmadpur-Katwa section. Labpur village is in Bolpur Subdivision situated on Suri-Kirnahar road approximately 10 km to the east of Ahmadpur railway station. Labpur is connected by road from Ahmadpur railway station at a distance of 12 km by road. Bus services are available from Suri, Sainthia and Bolpur frequently. If travelers are visiting Santiniketan, Labhpur Fullaratala is an ideal weekend destination, far from the din and bustle of city life.
Labhpur is also famous for it is the birthplace of famous Bengali writer Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay, renowned novelist of Bengal. He wrote here many books. Now it has been converted into a museum, which houses several at his belongings. A Guest House named Labhpur Guest House is available there for tourists.
